SABARMATI ASHRAM Sabarmati Ashram was founded by MAHATMA GANDHI on June 17 , 1917 . The ashram was originally called as Satyagraha ashram when it was found or established initially . This ashram is located on the banks of the river Sabarmati . "If , on weighing the merits of this ashram against its drawbacks , it is found wanting , the world has a right and duty to say that I have lived my life in vain as I have attempted to put my whole soul into it . "Gandhi had written this in 1920s , in reply to some allegations and criticism about he Ashram. It is also said that Gandhi started the Dandi March in the Sabarmati Ashram . Because this ashram it located in between a prison and a cementery .
